A water feature in a planter works outside as an accent to a yard or can be a little oasis on a balcony, porch, or even countertop for the apartment dwellers dreaming of ponds. It combines the best of both worlds, as it is both a garden and a fountain.

Items Needed

  • smartpond® Container Fountain Kit
  • Whiskey Barrel Planter
  • Small Plastic Planter
  • Various Flowers or Plants
  • Decorative Stones
  • Soil
  • Plastic Basin (Size we used: 13-in x 7-in x 5-in)

1. Prepare

Gather your supplies and select a location for your water feature. This project will be difficult to relocate once everything is assembled, so it is a good idea to set up your project where you intend to keep it. You will want a spot that has good visibility and an outlet nearby.

Insert your small planter inside your whiskey barrel planter.

Assemble your container fountain kit and place it in the smaller planter.

Fill the smaller planter with rocks being sure to keep the nozzle as vertical as possible.

2. Soil

Fill inside the whiskey barrel planter around the smaller planter with soil until filled about halfway.

3. Plant

Add one large plant in the middle of your planter.

4. More plants

Fill in the space around the larger plant with smaller plants.

Conceal the container fountain power cord by hiding it with plants and hanging it over the planter's back edge.

Add more soil until the roots of your plants are well covered.

Water all your plants and pat down the soil to ensure the plants adjust well to being repotted.

5. Enjoy!

Add water to the smaller planter for your water feature. Enjoy your water feature!

Tip: You can continue to change this project all year round by using different nozzle types and switching out flowers with the seasons.
